Fernando Rodrigo Mingo, Macelifter IMF Amateur Cat. 12.5 kg macebell
IMF: Hello Fernando, please introduce yourself (Where do you live, where do you train?...)
FRM: Well I live in Madrid, I am 45 years old and I like to train outdoors, I don't have enough space at home, so If I have the opportunity I like to go to a park and practice whenever I can.
IMF: How and when did you start training with a mace?
FRM: I learned the discipline from Gastón Giorlando and Sandra Carbonell 3 years ago, I trained with them as an instructor and since then the mace has been part of my training tools.
IMF: What do you like most about Macelifting?
FRM: The degree of concentration it requires, not like other disciplines in which technique and strength are also important, the mace adds a requirement in that aspect that makes it very attractive to me.
IMF: What advice would you give to new macelifters who want to start practicing this sport?
FRM: To practice a lot, that´s it, with good technique and adequate progress, to avoid injuries and to get benefit from this discipline.
IMF: You are currently in the 12.5 kg mace category, you are just one step away from reaching the professional category. What do you think you need to achieve it?
FRM: To be honest, more practice that is the truth, I think that macelifting is a very rewarding discipline, progress is very fast and investing more hours I would make it .
IMF: Which tests do you like the most, strength or endurance ones?
FRM: I would not know what to choose, I think that each one has a mission.
IMF: Which swing is your favourite 300 ° or 360 º and why?
FRM: 300º Is the one I like more, I think because of the concentration it requires alternating multiple hand changes.
IMF: If you were on an island and could only train with a macebell, what weight would it be?
FRM: I imagine that the 12.5 k one, it is the weight I am using right now and it would be a nice way to see my progress.
IMF: How did coronavirus pandemic affect your training with the mace?
FRM: In my case a lot, I have had shoulder problems and I have not been able to train as I would like to. I have trained my movements gently with a pair of small meels.
IMF: What do you think about the Double Swing 360 ° test?
FRM: I find it very challenging, technically and physically. Not suitable for all practitioners.
IMF: Which Bulava Lifting test do you like the most and why?
FRM: I love working out with a pair of bulavas alternating high swings and low swings due to the concentration required and the meditative aspect in which I am immersed.
IMF: How do you imagine Macelifting in ten years?
FRM: I think it could follow a similar evolution as Kettlebell Sport and be a sport discipline with many followers. The International Macelifting Federation is doing a great job to expand it.
IMF: Thank you very much Fernando for sharing your story with us.
